Introduction:

In 1743 Middletown was seperated from Newport because of the growing population, and the high taxes that Newport instituted. Middletown, named because of the middle location on the Island, is just a few miles away from Newport, and about 25 miles south from the city of Providence. After Middletown was founded as its own town, they began to build schools, including the Peabody school. Middletown High school was founded as the towns own public educational facility. Currently there are 688 students enrolled at the high school, ranging from grades 9-12. The high school is currently run by the superintendent Rosemarie Kraeger and the Principles Steven Ruscito, who currently are employing 69 teachers, which makes the teacher to student ratio around 1:10.
